La Paz Past
La Paz, the capital of Southern Baja, was founded in the early 16th century, by the legendary Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes. He named the beautiful city La Paz (the Peace) after the peaceful nature of its inhabitants.
La Paz was particularly attractive to the Spanish explorers due to being located on a great protected bay, a well protected harbor, and favorable weather. |
La Paz Lifestyle
The old world charm of La Paz
is still evident in the beautiful colonial architecture, and is without doubt one of the most beautiful cities of Mexico's northwest region.
Today, La Paz remains one of the jewels of the Sea of Cortez, and is acknowledged as one of the most desirable locations in Baja due to its natural beauty and endless recreational opportunities.
Take a whale watching trip to Magdalena Bay, or a tour of the Laguna mountain range to see ancient cave paintings, or a leisurely walk down a pristine beach, all within close proximity. |
La Paz Today
La Paz is the perfect blend of old and new. Despite the colonial heritage, La Paz is a very modern city of more than 200,000 residents, many of whom are Americans who have found their own new world.
Modern shopping centers, hospitals, universities, marinas, excellent hotels, and an International Airport, all make La Paz a natural choice for those seeking to enjoy an enriching and beautiful lifestyle. |
